Some Things God Hasn’t Done
We have just journeyed through Thanksgiving and Christmas and have probably said “thank you” many times to the Lord and to our family and friends. No doubt you have sung “Great Things He Has Done” and praised God for His generosity and faithfulness. But have you ever thanked God for the things He has not done? God has not lied to us. King Solomon told us this when he dedicated the temple to the Lord, “Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised, “there has not failed one word of all His good promise...” (I Kings 8:56 NKJV).

When I was in my fi rst pastorate, we had to construct a new church building, and I couldn’t build a bird house from a kit; but God gave me just the promise I needed: “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God — my God — will be with you.
He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord (I Chron. 28:20). I reminded the Lord of that verse many times during our building program, and He did not fail us!
As Christians, we live on promises, not explanations. Perhaps at the start of this new year, the Lord has a promise He wants to give you. Don’t just open your Bible anywhere and point to a verse. In the course of your regular Bible reading, ask God for that one verse that will carry you through another year, and He will give it to you. Our loving Father knows just the truth we will need as we enter a new year, so let’s take time to let Him teach us. God has not dealt with us according to
