Thinking about ...Purpose & Destiny
The biggest questions that can haunt every human being pertains
to purpose and destiny. Why am I here? Where am I going? What lies ahead?
The problem is that most people have their identity centered and surrounded
by a combination of persons, places, or things, which are all temporal.
"Hi, I'm John the engineer" or "I'm Betsy who
lives on the pond" or "I'm Fred who drives the BMW"
or even "Phil who goes to Cape Cod Community College".
To find out who we really are we need to consult our Creator. If you
buy or are given a device and are confused about its use and purpose, would
you not consult the designer of the item? Well, you (your whole being,
mind, body, soul, & spirit) have been made and are loved by a purposeful
Creator.
For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that
are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions,
or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. Colossians
1:16,17
The problem is we are dead and dysfunctional without God. We attempt
to replace a relationship with Him with temporal relationships, the pursuit
of intellect, pleasures, money, etc. You name it, it is pursued in attempt
to satisfy the human soul. The problem is the we are empty (void) without
God's spirit and separated from Him by sin. We cannot even approach
God through our religious pursuits without accepting His diagnosis
and remedy for sin.
The Word of God clearly teaches that we are all born in sin (Romans
3:23), unrighteous in ourselves (Romans 3:10), and dead in sin (Ephesians
2:1). Not only that, we cannot see the Kingdom of
God nor enter it without being born of the Spirit of God, as Jesus
Christ said,
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man
be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God....Verily, verily, I say
unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter
into the kingdom of God. John 3:3,5
But God, who desires to express His unconditional and everlasting love
for us in Christ, does not desire to leave us dead in our sins,
as He sent Jesus Christ into the world to die on a cross for our
sins and raised Him from the dead that we may live in Him and Him
in us (see Galatians 2:20).
For God so loved the world, that he gave his
only begotten Son, thatwhosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life. John 3:16
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for
the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure
for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love
toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much
more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath
through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by
the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by
his life. Romans 5:6-10
So how does one establish a relationship with God?
1. You must come to God and believe that He is.
But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh
to God must believe that He is, and that he is a rewarder of them that
diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6
2. You must acknowledge (confess or agree with God) that you are lost
and separated from Him by sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that
we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 1
John 1:8-10
3. Receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved."
(Acts 16:31) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord
Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the
dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9)
Pray this prayer knowing God will listen to the cry from your heart:
Dear God, I need you in my life. I know that I am a sinner and need
forgiveness. I believe that Christ died for my sin and rose from the dead
to give me eternal life. I now ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart and
life as my personal Savior. I am willing by God's grace to follow and obey
Christ as the Lord of my life.
Now, you must believe that you are a child of God...
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the
sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12
And that your purpose and destiny are in Him ...
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. For whom he did
foreknow, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son,
that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined,
them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom
he justified, them he also glorified. Romans 8:28-30
That you now are to live through Him ...
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God
sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
1 John 4:9
